Dietmar Rainer, born in 1973, comes from the Schnals Valley in South Tyrol/Italy.
He studied instrumental pedagogy, majoring in trumpet and specialising in choral and ensemble conducting at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg and concert trumpet at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz. At the same time, he attended numerous masterclasses and regularly took private lessons with Bo Nielsson in Malmö and Wolfgang Guggenberger in Munich.
During his studies, he played in renowned ensembles and orchestras, taught at the Musikum Salzburg and was director of the Berchtesgadener Land music school. After graduating, he taught for a year at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand.
He then moved back to South Tyrol, where he works as a music teacher, lecturer, conductor, arranger and organist. He has successfully conducted the wind band of Schnals, the wind band of Kortsch, the Vinschgau symphonic wind orchestra and several music theatre projects. He is currently organist and choirmaster in Schnals and conducts the concert band of Naturns.
In recent years, he has specialised in wind orchestra conducting and instrumentation. He completed a five-year study programme at the European Institute for Band (ISEB) in Trento with Jan Cober, Felix Hauswirth, Alex Schillings, Josè Pasqual Vilaplana and Carlo Pirola. He recently obtained his Master of Music with specialisation in Wind Band / Brass Band Conducting at the Zuyd University of Applied Sciences in Maastricht (NL) with Jan Cober.
With his instrumentation service Toccata – Customised Music Arrangements, he creates arrangements for various formations and is internationally successful.
