Zillertal-born Mathias Rauch (born 1976 in Schwendau/Tyrol/Austria) is not only known to most as a composer and arranger for brass music, folk music and various ensembles. He is probably also known as an excellent tuba and tenor horn player with an unmistakable virtuoso performance, style and unique technique.
Mathias Rauch is particularly active in brass music circles at seminars and courses for the essential functions in the low brass section. “The 2 sets the tone” is probably his best-known motto at his workshops throughout Europe.
Thanks to his musical past as a tuba player in various symphonic orchestras throughout Europe, Mathias Rauch is also one of the most sought-after artists in the classical sector. His special friendship with the American tuba player Jon Sass has also led him to perform with him on the jazz stage in recent years. A unique mixture. Together with Jon Sass, he has produced a literary work “Creative Impulse”, which has now been translated into 4 different languages and includes sheet music, CDs and DVDs.
Mathias Rauch has fulfilled a small dream with his “Tirol Musikverlag”. Starting out as a hobby, Tirol Musikverlag (part of Tyrolis since 2008) quickly became a specialised sheet music publisher for wind music and small ensembles. In the meantime, Tirol Musikverlag has become an integral part of the entire brass music scene. Mathias Rauch has published well over 300 works for wind orchestra, brass band, various small ensembles and above all for his “Hippacher Musikanten”.
Many commissioned works from various European countries complete his list of works, which in 2013 amounted to around 480 compositions. Around 150 commissioned arrangements for various ensembles complete the already incredibly long list of works.
With his “Hippacher Musikanten”, Mathias Rauch created a completely new musical style in the field of folk brass music through his compositions and arrangements. Over 200 compositions have been written for the Hippacher Musikanten alone and are a source of great pleasure for many imitators throughout the Alpine region.
Through his 8-year involvement with the well-known music group “Die Innsbrucker Böhmische”, Mathias Rauch also played a significant role in the development and creation of the new musical style of the successful group from Tyrol.
As a highlight, his most famous composition to date, “Tuba Wahnsinn”, was awarded 1st prize in New York by an international jury of experts as “Best Composition for Solo & Brasses Ensemble”. Crazy thing: Mathias Rauch himself played the tuba solo on the original version and recording of the “Innsbrucker Böhmischen”. This recording was also honoured as “Best Performance”.
His work “Böhmische Liebe” has become one of the most famous pieces of modern Bohemian wind music and has sold over a million copies.
