Gottfried Veit was born in Bolzano on 13 August 1943 and received a high-quality musical education at the Mozarteum University of Music and Performing Arts in Salzburg and the Claudio Monteverdi State Conservatory in his home town.
After graduating, he studied orchestral conducting with Henk van Lijnschooten and choral conducting with Helmuth Rilling.
Today, Gottfried Veit – who was South Tyrol’s regional conductor from 1980 to 2007 – is active as a conductor, composer and freelancer for RAI South Tyrol. He has appeared countless times as a conductor with the Südtiroler Landesjugendblasorchester, the VSM Youth Wind Orchestra, Jugendblasorchester from the VSM, the Musikkapelle Zwölfmalgreien, the Bürgerkapelle St. Michael-Eppan, the Gelf Choir, the Children’s Choir of the Leonhard Lechner Choir and the Großes Bozner Blechbläserensemble (Great Bolzano Brass Ensemble).
In addition to over 300 compositions for wind orchestra, choir, piano, organ and various chamber music ensembles, he has also published the books “Die Blasmusik – Studie über die geschichtliche Entwicklung der geblasenen Musik” and “Das Blasorchester heute – Wer spielt was?” as well as a whole series of relevant specialist articles.
Since 1995 Gottfried Veit has been a member of the “Wind Music” expert committee of the International Music Federation CISM and the “Südtiroler Künstlerbund”. He dedicates himself to pedagogical activities in the form of lectures, teaching rehearsals, seminars and workshops. In this capacity, Veit has worked at the Music Academy in Marktoberdorf, the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz and the University of Music in Graz, among others. He also frequently acts as a juror at national and international competitions.
Recently, Gottfried Veit has preferred to write commissioned compositions for associations, organisations and other institutions.
