Vivat Burgum Novum
In the sunny south of South Tyrol, close to the German language border, lies the market village of Neumarkt at the foot of the Castelfeder hill. The name of the municipality “Burgum novum Egne”, founded in 1189, gave rise to the place name “Newenmarcht” in the 14th century and subsequently to the current name Neumarkt. Due to its favourable geographical location, the town was already a flourishing trading centre in the Middle Ages, with the most important river port in the region (until the 16th century) and is today the cultural and economic centre of the Südtiroler Unterland (South Tyrolean lowlands). The picturesque village of Neumarkt with its old town centre, long arcades, stately residences and magnificent courtyards is considered one of the most beautiful locations in Italy for good reason.
With the concert march “VIVAT BURGUM NOVUM”, Radakovich expresses his appreciation for his home town and at the same time dedicates it to the Musikkapelle Neumarkt for its 200th anniversary.
