Fabio Riz was born in 1993 in the Fassa Valley (Trentino) and became interested in music at a young age. At the age of eight, he started clarinet lessons at the music school “Il Pentagramma” and soon joins his home band, called “Mùsega da Vich” in Ladin, as a musician. The orchestra activity is a further incentive to continue his education, and so he joins the “Banda giovanile rappresentativa delle Bande Trentine”. Through this association he also attended his first conducting courses. He continued his clarinet studies at the “Claudio Monteverdi” Conservatory in Bolzano with the teachers Roberto Gander and Roberta Gottardi and obtained the Level II academic diploma in 2018. At the same time, he repeatedly attended courses for conductors and in 2017 took over the position as conductor and clarinet teacher at the Musikkapelle Truden, which he still leads today.
Fabio Riz is a member of the South Tyrolean select orchestra Symphonic Winds as well as the orchestra Pentagramma Winds and the Pentaquintett.
On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the founding of the “Mùsega da Vich”, he wrote his first original composition for wind orchestra entitled “Echo Alp”, which was recorded on the CD “Alfa e Omega” in 2020.
