Simon Gamper is a composer, MD, multi-instrumentalist and producer. His commissions regularly take him all over Europe and his music can be heard in concert halls, cinemas, on theatre stages, on TV and on the radio.
In his career to date, Simon has had the great pleasure of composing for the Sinfonietta Riga, the Festival of Contemporary Music Bolzano and for “WINDKRAFT – Blaskapelle für Neue Musik”, playing in the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, in the “ARD-Morgenmagazin” and the Graz Opera, setting the first Latvian western and “ORF Universum History” to music and exploring Reinhold Messner’s alpinist life in film and music.
Simon’s collaboration with his brother, author and director Dietmar Gamper, plays a special role in his work. Together they have realised numerous successful theatre and film productions as well as performances and installations in Italy, Germany and Austria.
Simon was born in Merano and studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz. He enjoyed many years of tuition from Professor Steven Mead and attended masterclasses with Nebojsa Jovan Zivkovic, Wycliffe Gordon, Susan Blair, Gavin Harrison and many more.
In addition to his artistic activities, Simon Gamper is a music spokesman for PERFAS – Performing Artists South Tyrol. He also runs the GuitArt association, which currently offers instrumental lessons to around 150 members.
