The South Tyrolean percussionist and composer Ivo Radakovich was born in Bolzano in 1955. At the age of 11, he began his musical education at the Bolzano Conservatory, specialising in flute. As he has been a glockenspiel and percussion enthusiast since early childhood, he decided to study percussion and flute at the Tiroler Landeskonservatorium in Innsbruck after graduating from high school. During this time, he was artistically supervised by two renowned musicians, Prof Wolf Dieter Köhler in percussion and Prof Franz Renwart in flute. He completed his state teaching qualification with honours in 1981 and his concert studies in 1982 – also with honours.
Ivo Radakovich is a great lover of wind music and was a member of the Bürgerkapelle Gries in Bolzano for many years; he also continues to play in various South Tyrolean wind bands on a project basis.
His work as a bandleader has spanned Montan, Völser Aicha and Aldein. From 2016 to 2020, he studied wind orchestra conducting with Prof. Walter Ratzek at the conservatory in Bolzano.
Ivo Radakovich worked as a music teacher at various South Tyrolean music schools for over 40 years. As an expert on bells, he was a member of the Südtiroler Glockenkommission (South Tyrolean Bell Commission) for several years. He currently lives in Neumarkt an der Etsch. He is passionate about composing concert marches for large wind orchestras.
