Brixner Jubiläumsmesse (wind orchestra instrumentation)
Among the various scoring options originally given by Jaeggi, there is also a “large instrumentation” for flute, oboe, clarinet in E flat, 2 clarinets in B flat, bassoon, 2 flugelhorns, 2 alto horns, 2 tenor horns, baritone, 3 trumpets in B flat, 3 trombones and tuba. Dieter Viehweider has carefully transposed precisely this to a standard wind orchestra instrumentation of today using only the existing sheet music. Only the new and optional timpani part was specially composed by Gottfried Veit, always in keeping with the style of the work as a whole. The orchestral parts and the part for congregational singing are set in the practical marching book format. This should help the work, conceived as a “community mass”, to be performed in a wide range of contexts and can easily be used in church and at field masses.
The wind band version, wind quartet/quintet version and organ version can each be used as independent editions or combined in different variants. In this way, the editions can provide musical colour changes when choirs, cantors, organists and bands play together.
