Riverleg
Da Påch'haagse · Flussbein
In the work ‘Riverleg’, Jakob Augschöll describes a legendary figure from the Ahrntal Alps: the so-called ‘Poch’haagse’ (river leg). According to the legend, a figure of unknown appearance lives in the river, which sweeps people into the floods as soon as they approach the riverbank. The legend was intended to warn children in particular of the dangers of the river.
In the work, the composer attempts to set the characteristics of the river Ahr, which also gives the valley its name, to music in various characters.
The composition was commissioned by the Musikkapelle St. Jakob in Ahrn Wind Orchestra to celebrate the 60th anniversary of its founding.
