The Logical Song with the legendary alto saxophone solo by John A. Helliwell, is probably the greatest hit of the Supertramp album ‘Breakfast in America’. In this arrangement, the first part can optionally be played by either a soprano or alto saxophone. However, it can also be played as a sextet, with both the soprano and optional alto saxophone parts together. The solo from bar 88 to 96 is then played by only one saxophonist, because it isn’t the same in both parts. The solo from bar 46 to 56 in the first alto saxophone part is certainly a challenge. The A6 will hardly be played by a student! Until then, simply play an A5 (an octave lower). In bar 79, the tenor saxophone takes over a melodious solo and in bar 97, the second alto saxophone leads into the finale. Thus, in this arrangement, every single musician also has a solo task to accomplish. For a live performance, rhythmic accompaniment by a cajon would certainly be appreciated. The cajon would start together with the baritone saxophone when the A section is repeated.
